Google's Professional Network Engineer learning path combines courses, labs, and skill badges to practice configuring, operating, and troubleshooting cloud networks. What you'll practice
The path includes six Networking in Google Cloud courses: fundamentals, routing and addressing, load balancing, network security, network architecture, and hybrid and multicloud connectivity. Other activities cover Cloud Next Generation Firewall, logging and monitoring, and GKE services, communication, and secure application access.
Three skill badges exercise concrete tasks: configuring load balancers for Compute Engine, building a secure Google Cloud network, and connecting networks through Network Connectivity Center. Use the linked path for the current activity order and details.
What the role requires
The linked certification overview describes the skills the exam assesses:
- Design and implement a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) network.
- Configure managed network services, including routing, load balancing, Cloud NAT, and Cloud DNS.
- Connect Google Cloud with on-premises or other cloud networks using Cloud Interconnect and Cloud VPN.
- Monitor and troubleshoot network operations.
- Design and manage network security, including VPC and firewall controls.
The emphasis is on keeping networks available, scalable, resilient, and secure—not just recognizing product names.
Make the path operational
As a study practice, use a disposable project and draw where traffic should go before testing it. For each failure, distinguish the configured state—routes, firewall rules, and service settings—from what traffic actually does. Record the symptom, evidence, cause, and fix. This turns a completed lab into a troubleshooting example you can explain later.
Pair the path with the current exam guide, practical experience, and product documentation. The certification page recommends at least three years of industry experience, including one year designing and managing Google Cloud solutions.
