Google's Open Knowledge Format: Just Markdown for AI Agents
Prism Labs explains Google Cloud's Open Knowledge Format (OKF) v0.1 proposal for exchanging agent-facing knowledge as files rather than through a catalog-specific service. Its distinctive mechanism is a small bundle contract: each concept is a Markdown file, its ID is the bundle-relative path with the .md suffix removed, YAML frontmatter exposes structured metadata, ordinary Markdown links form graph edges, and optional index and log files support navigation and history.
This is a short explainer of Google's announcement and reference artifacts, not an independent interoperability evaluation. Google's enrichment agent, visualizer, and sample bundles show one producer and consumer path, but the recording does not demonstrate exchange between independent vendors, sustained maintenance accuracy, retrieval quality, or broad adoption. The narration calls six frontmatter fields queryable and later calls them required, while only type is required. The Format Mechanism
